Barrio Logan College Institute’s main priority is to positively impact the lives of San Diego youth and the trajectory of their futures. Students in our programs begin their college journey in 3rd grade. To date, 100% of our students have enrolled in college.
Research shows that low academic attainment levels are associated with poverty, crime, low civic engagement and poor health outcomes. At BLCI, we understand the need for our services to fulfill our mission of Breaking the Cycle of Poverty through education.
Our commitment to developing youth in the most underserved communities remains stronger today than ever before. With your support, we can continue to ensure that more students receive our critical services to achieve their academic goals.

Barrio Logan is the heart of the institute and serves 200 students as well as college-enrolled alumni. At this site, we test out new curriculum and theories which are then introduced to other sites. The majority of our families at this location are bilingual, Spanish and English, as well as first generation immigrants. We serve 20 students per grade from 3rd through 12th with support to alumni all the way through college graduation.

I successfully navigated through college thanks to the resources and expertise provided by BLCI. I am eternally grateful for their continued support of my aspirations.
As a current board member and former board chair of BLCI, I am always moved by the strength, persistence and enthusiasm of our students and families. Their commitment to the goal of getting to college and pursuing careers, no matter the odds, inspires me every day. The BLCI team, students and parents are a very special family and I am honored to be part of it.
BLCI played a huge role for me because I feel that I learned about what college is and how it works through my attendance in the weekly workshops. There was one particular specialist who was constantly excited to teach, so this motivated me even more. He was a huge mentor and I never felt like an outsider. I felt very welcomed and I know BLCI will always be here for me.
BLCI gave me the resources and tools to pursue higher education and ultimately to break the cycle of poverty for not only my familia but for my comunidad as well.
BLCI has supported me academically and mentally. It helped me surpassed the challenge of being at a University as a first generation college student.
BLCI has changed my mindset especially with my education and how I have looked at college. It also pushed me to become a role model, especially since I am a first generation college graduate and I want to help others by making sure they pursue higher education.
