Karla is a BLCI alumna from the Class of 2013. She received her B.S. in Child and Family Development with a minor in Counseling and Social Change from San Diego State University. During her undergraduate studies, she worked as a College Advisor for the College Avenue Compact Program at Hoover High School. She was also a Program Assistant to BLCI College Success Program where she worked with seniors and alumni. Karla graduated from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) where she completed her M.S. in School Counseling with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. While at CSULB, Karla worked for its TRiO-Educational Talent Search as a Program Assistant at 3 high schools in the Compton Unified School District by providing academic advising and college/career knowledge to students. During her master’s program, she was also a school counseling intern at Paramount High School and Buena Park Junior High School where she provided academic, social-emotional, and college/career services to students. Karla is excited to return to the BLCI community and support the students and families achieve the goal of graduating college.
