Karla Peraza was born and raised in San Diego, specifically in Barrio Logan and Logan Heights. In second grade, Karla’s teacher recommended her, along some of her peers, to apply to BLCI. At the time she wasn’t sure what BLCI was, later on she became very involved in the program. Karla attended Perkins K-8 and San Diego High School of Science and Technology.
At first, Karla thought she wanted to be an engineer, but after taking some engineering classes in high school she found out it wasn’t the right path for her. She went on to attending the University of California, Irvine where she received her Bachelors in Arts in Education Sciences. At UC Irvine, Karla worked for two years with AmeriCorps Jumpstart, where she worked in pre-schools in Santa Ana.
After college, she decided to come back to San Diego where she started working with BLCI.
